UK URGES HOUSEHOLDS TO STOCKPILE ESSENTIALS FOR EMERGENCIES
The UK Government has encouraged households to keep three days’ worth of essential supplies in case emergencies disrupt everyday services.
The advice forms part of its “Be Ready” campaign, which aims to help families prepare for situations such as severe weather, power cuts, water outages and cyber incidents.
Households are encouraged to store bottled water and non-perishable food, alongside useful items such as a torch, spare batteries, a portable phone charger and a battery-powered or wind-up radio.
The checklist also includes essential medication, first-aid supplies, important contact numbers and copies of key documents. Families are advised to consider any additional needs involving babies, pets or medical equipment.
Officials said people could build their supplies gradually, rather than buying everything at once.
The campaign also encourages eligible residents to join the Priority Services Register, helping utility providers identify customers who may need extra support during an outage.
The government acknowledged that households have different resources and circumstances, urging people to take the practical steps available to them.
The aim is to help families manage short-term disruption while emergency services and utility providers work to restore normal operations.
