The United Kingdom and Nigeria are strengthening cooperation to support responsible artificial intelligence adoption and Nigeria’s digital transformation.

The collaboration included an executive workshop organised by the British Standards Institution and the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics under the UK Government’s Digital Access Programme.

Senior government officials, regulators and technology professionals participated in sessions on AI oversight, risk management and accountability.

The programme focused on how internationally recognised standards can help institutions adopt emerging technologies responsibly while encouraging innovation.

Speaking at the closing event in Abuja, British High Commission official Grace Bell said strong institutions and trusted standards were important to achieving the economic and social benefits of AI.

She reaffirmed the UK’s support for Nigeria’s digital development, highlighting opportunities for investment, trade and greater public confidence in technology.

NCAIR National Coordinator Dr Olubunmi Ajala also emphasised the importance of building Nigeria’s capacity to oversee AI adoption.

The wider partnership covers areas including cybersecurity, data governance, digital public services and infrastructure.

The initiative aims to give Nigerian institutions practical tools to manage technological change while supporting a more trusted digital economy.
