UGANDA CRASH: ATC URGES STRICTER SAFETY FOR SCHOOL EXCURSIONS

The Association of Tour Companies (ATC) has called for stricter safety protocols for school excursions following the tragic road crash in Uganda that resulted in the deaths of several Nigerian students.

In a statement on Wednesday, ATC described the incident as “deeply heartbreaking” and urged schools, parents, and tour operators to prioritise safety over cost.

The association recommended the use of only roadworthy, fully insured vehicles with experienced drivers, proper vehicle maintenance checks, and adherence to speed limits.

ATC also advocated for mandatory safety briefings, first aid kits, and the inclusion of trained escorts on every school trip.

“School excursions should be memorable for the right reasons. We must not allow negligence to continue claiming innocent lives,” the statement read.

The group pledged to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Education and transport authorities to enforce higher standards and regulations governing student excursions both locally and internationally.
