UEFA SETS SEPTEMBER 2 DEADLINE FOR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SQUAD REGISTRATION*
UEFA has set September 2, 2026, as the deadline for clubs to submit their List A squads for the 2026/27 Champions League league phase, with a maximum of 25 players allowed.
According to UEFA, clubs must submit their squads by 23:59 CET on September 2, with the lists subsequently verified by their respective national associations. At least two of the 25 players must be goalkeepers, while a minimum of eight spots are reserved for locally trained players.
UEFA said clubs with fewer than eight locally trained players would have their maximum List A squad size reduced accordingly. Clubs can also register an unlimited number of eligible players on List B, which can be amended throughout the season and must be submitted no later than the day before a relevant match.
Clubs that advance to the knockout phase will be allowed to register up to three new players by February 4, 2027, while the 25-player List A limit and locally trained-player requirement will remain in place. UEFA also outlined provisions allowing clubs to temporarily replace players suffering long-term injuries or illness.
The 2026/27 Champions League league phase is scheduled to begin on September 8, with the final set to take place at Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium on June 5, 2027.
