UCL: OSIMHEN MAKES HISTORY AFTER GALATASARAY’S 3-0 WIN AGAINST AJAX
Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, made history on Wednesday night after scoring a sensational hat-trick in his team’s 3-0 victory over Ajax in the UEFA Champions League at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The 26-year-old Nigerian international opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a powerful header from Leroy Sané’s precise cross. He then doubled Galatasaray’s advantage seven minutes later from the penalty spot before completing his hat-trick in the 78th minute, also via a penalty.
The treble takes Osimhen’s tally to six goals in the Champions League this season, following his earlier strikes against Bodo/Glimt (2) and Liverpool (1) in recent weeks.
According to Opta, Osimhen has now become:
The first player in Galatasaray’s history to score two or more goals in back-to-back Champions League matches.
The first Galatasaray player to score a hat-trick in European competition since Burak Yılmaz achieved the feat in 2012 against Cluj.
The first Nigerian to score a Champions League hat-trick since Yakubu Ayegbeni did so for Maccabi Haifa in their 3-0 win over Olympiacos in 2002.
Osimhen’s performance has further underlined his reputation as one of Europe’s most clinical forwards, with fans and pundits alike hailing his dominance in front of goal
