UCL: “MY TWO GOALS WERE GREAT” – GYOKERES REACTS AFTER ARSENAL’S 4-0 WIN OVER ATLETICO
Arsenal’s £64 million summer signing, Viktor Gyokeres, says he is delighted to have scored twice in the Gunners’ emphatic 4-0 Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.
The Swedish forward, who had gone nine matches without a goal, was named Player of the Match after producing a brilliant second-half performance that sealed Arsenal’s dominance at the Emirates Stadium.
Brazilian duo Gabriel Magalhães and Gabriel Martinelli put Arsenal ahead before Gyokeres added a quickfire brace to complete the rout.
Speaking to UEFA after the match, Gyokeres said he was pleased with both his goals and the team’s all-round display.
“I am very pleased. They had some good opportunities, but I think we controlled it overall,” he said.
“To score four and keep a clean sheet again is very good. Both my goals were great. I try to do my best all the time and work hard — the goals were always going to come sooner or later.”
Gyokeres praised his teammates’ discipline and effort on both ends of the pitch, adding that the team remains focused on taking things one game at a time.
“We want to do well and win football matches, but there’s a long journey ahead. We’ll take it game by game, even if that sounds boring,” he added.
The win keeps Mikel Arteta’s side in strong form in Europe, with their next Champions League outing set for November 4 against Slavia Prague.
In the Premier League, Arsenal will face Crystal Palace, while Atletico Madrid will aim to bounce back against Real Betis in La Liga.
