UBEC LAUNCHES PLATFORM TO TRACK EDUCATION FUNDS, PROJECTS
The Universal Basic Education Commission has launched a digital platform that will allow parents and communities to monitor basic education projects and track funds accessed by states.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, announced the initiative in Abuja during a two-day consultative workshop with chairmen of the 36 State Universal Basic Education Boards.
The Basic Education Action Plan Management System is designed to improve transparency, planning and monitoring of interventions under UBEC’s 10-year roadmap for 2026 to 2035.
Garba said the platform would provide information on funds accessed by states and projects being implemented, allowing communities to monitor developments in their schools and hold relevant authorities accountable.
She said state education boards had already been onboarded ahead of the platform’s full deployment in October.
UBEC is also adopting a “whole school approach”, requiring states to assess the comprehensive needs of individual schools before intervention plans are approved. This could include classrooms, toilets, fencing, furniture and computers, depending on the needs of each school.
Garba also announced changes to the matching-grant formula, giving states greater flexibility to use UBEC funds based on their specific education needs.
The commission said the new 10-year roadmap would formally begin in October and guide basic education interventions across Nigeria through 2035.
