UAE SLAMS NEW VISA RULES ON NIGERIANS, BANS TRANSIT VISAS
Traveling to Dubai just got a lot tougher for Nigerians. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced fresh, stricter visa conditions for Nigerian citizens — including a complete ban on transit visa applications.
According to travel agents who received the latest directives from Dubai immigration on Tuesday, any Nigerian between the ages of 18 and 45 will no longer be eligible for a tourist visa unless they’re accompanied. This is expected to significantly reduce the number of Nigerians traveling to Dubai, which has long been a favorite destination for business and tourism.
For Nigerians aged 45 and above, the rules are also tight. Applicants must now submit a six-month personal bank statement showing a consistent monthly end balance of at least $10,000 (or its naira equivalent) to qualify for a tourist visa.
“Kindly note that the above points must be taken into consideration before sending your applications, along with other documents such as hotel reservation, data page, etc.,” part of the notice sent to travel agents reads.
This new development comes roughly a year after the UAE lifted a two-year visa ban on Nigerians — although even then, the ban was replaced with tough requirements that limited the number of Nigerians able to secure visas.
The latest restrictions are expected to impact many Nigerians who frequently travel to Dubai for shopping, tourism, medical trips, and business. Travel experts warn that things may get even more complicated in the coming days as the UAE continues to review its immigration policies.
