U-17 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: FLAMINGOS FACE NORTH KOREA IN CRUCIAL CLASH
Nigeria’s Flamingos face a tough challenge against defending champions North Korea as they seek a place in the knockout stage of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The final Group B encounter is scheduled for Friday, October 23, at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, with kick-off set for 4 p.m. Nigerian time.
The Flamingos revived their qualification hopes with a 2–0 victory over Puerto Rico after losing their opening match 2–1 to Poland.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Precious Oscar scored against Puerto Rico, giving Nigeria an important confidence boost ahead of their toughest group fixture.
North Korea enter the encounter with two victories from two matches, having scored 12 goals and conceded just once. Their attacking form presents a major challenge for Nigeria’s defence.
Flamingos coach Akeem Busari has emphasised the importance of composure and better finishing. His team created opportunities against Puerto Rico but had to wait until late in the game to secure their second goal.
Against the defending champions, making the most of scoring chances could prove decisive.
Nigeria will be seeking a positive result to strengthen their qualification prospects, while the outcome of Poland’s meeting with Puerto Rico could also affect the final group standings.
The Flamingos, who won bronze in 2022, now have an opportunity to build on their recovery and keep their World Cup campaign moving forward.
