TWO SOLDIERS KILLED IN ISWAP ATTACK ON MAGUMERI BASE
The Nigerian Army has confirmed an attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on its military base in Magumeri, Borno State, which reportedly left two soldiers dead.
According to military sources, the attack occurred when armed ISWAP fighters launched a coordinated assault on the base, triggering a fierce exchange of fire between troops and the attackers.
The Army stated that its personnel engaged the militants in a defensive response, eventually repelling the attack and preventing further damage to the facility.
ISWAP, an extremist faction operating in the Lake Chad Basin region, has been responsible for multiple attacks on military and civilian targets in northeastern Nigeria over the years.
The Magumeri incident adds to ongoing security challenges in the region, where the military continues counter-insurgency operations aimed at weakening terrorist networks and restoring stability.
Security analysts note that attacks on military bases are often aimed at testing security strength and gaining access to weapons and supplies.
The Nigerian Army has reassured residents that operations in the area remain active and that efforts are ongoing to track and neutralize remaining threats.
While two soldiers were confirmed killed in the attack, authorities say the situation was brought under control and normalcy has been restored around the base.
As counter-terrorism operations continue, attention remains focused on strengthening security in vulnerable areas across the northeast.
