TWO SISTERS, LOVER STAGE FAKE KIDNAP TO EXTORT FATHER IN ABUJA – POLICE
FCT Police Arrest Family Members Over Staged Kidnapping Plot to Defraud Father of N5 Million
In a shocking case of betrayal, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested four individuals, including two sisters, over a fake kidnapping plot aimed at extorting ₦5 million from their own father.
The
The incident began when a man, Mr. Innocent, reported that his 16-year-old daughter, Miss Lead Way Innocent, went missing after leaving home on July 18, 2025, to write an exam at Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja.
Days later, he received a ransom demand via a phone call from unknown persons, claiming they had abducted his daughter.
Acting swiftly, officers from the Jikwoyi Police Division launched a discreet investigation using intelligence and digital tracking. Their efforts led them to a residence in Jikwoyi Phase II, where Miss Lead Way was found relaxed and chatting freely with a woman, Mrs. Tina Mayowa, showing no signs of being in danger.
Further investigation revealed a carefully orchestrated plot:
Miss Joy Innocent, the elder sister of the supposed victim, conspired with her boyfriend, Mr. Mayowa Adedeji, who is married to Mrs. Tina Mayowa.
Joy and Mayowa planned the staged kidnapping to extort their father.
Lead Way was fully aware and actively participated, pretending to be abducted while staying with the accomplices.
Meanwhile, Joy stayed home and pretended to be concerned, even as their father struggled emotionally and financially to secure the "ransom."
All four suspects — Lead Way, Joy, Mayowa, and his wife Tina — have been arrested and confessed to the crime. They will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
FCT Police Commissioner, CP Ajao Sunday Adewale, condemned the act, calling it a “disturbing abuse of family trust.” He urged parents to stay emotionally connected to their children and be attentive to sudden behavioral changes.
He also warned that the police will not tolerate any form of criminal exploitation — especially when it involves deceiving loved ones for money.
This incident serves as a painful reminder of how manipulation within families can be deeply damaging — and how law enforcement is stepping up to ensure justice is served.
