Armed men on Thursday night launched an attack on the Zonkwa Divisional Police Headquarters in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving two officers dead.

The assailants, whose number remains unknown, reportedly arrived at the station around 8:45 p.m. and opened fire indiscriminately. The intensity of the gunfire forced some police personnel on guard duty to retreat into nearby bushes, as the station had no perimeter fencing for protection.

The deceased officers were identified as DSP Monday Madaki, aged 55, who was serving as the Incident Duty Officer, and Inspector Bin Magaji, 49, the Charge Room Officer. Both sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the assault.

A security source revealed that the attackers fled the scene shortly after the shooting, while the Divisional Police Officer promptly mobilized his team and sought military backup to restore calm.

The injured officers were rushed to the General Hospital in Zonkwa, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

Reports indicate that no weapons were stolen during the incident, and security has since been restored in the area. Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified operations to track down the gunmen, with joint patrols and surveillance heightened across Zangon Kataf and surrounding communities.
