Federal Road Safety Corps attributes tragic collision at Dangi Underpass to mechanical brake failure in heavy tipper truck loaded with bitumen

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, has confirmed that two male adults lost their lives while two others sustained injuries in a fatal road traffic crash along the Kano-Zaria Road.

According to an official statement issued by the command's Public Education Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, on behalf of Sector Commander Idris Mohammed Lawal, the incident occurred at the Dangi Underpass involving a Howo tipper truck carrying bitumen and a Mercedes-Benz C180 saloon car.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the crash was triggered by a mechanical brake failure in the fully loaded tipper truck, causing the driver to lose control as the vehicle slid backwards and heavily crushed the passenger vehicle directly behind it.

Emergency response teams from the FRSC swiftly evacuated all four adult male victims to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where medical doctors confirmed two of the individuals dead on arrival while the remaining two were admitted for intensive treatment.

Reacting to the tragedy, Sector Commander Idris Mohammed Lawal expressed condolences to the bereaved families and issued a stern warning to commercial fleet operators, construction firms, and motorists against neglecting routine vehicle maintenance, particularly brake systems and tires, emphasizing that defensive driving and strict roadworthiness checks remain critical to preventing avoidable fatalities.
