TWO MEN CONVICTED FOR N10.5 MILLION FRAUD IN BORNO

A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has convicted and sentenced two men over separate fraud cases involving more than ₦10.5 million, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced via its official X handle on Monday.

The cases were heard on Monday, July 28, 2025, by Justice Aisha Kumaliya.

In the first case, Ibrahim Aisami, also known as Ibrahim Mai Kaza, was sentenced after being found guilty of criminal breach of trust. Aisami was first arraigned by the EFCC in May 2023 after he sold two vehicles—a Mercedes Benz C200 and a Hyundai Country—worth about ₦3.5 million, which had been entrusted to him for safekeeping while the owner travelled to Chad.

Instead of keeping the vehicles safe, Aisami sold them and kept the money. The court sentenced him to six months in prison or a ₦50,000 fine. He was also ordered to repay ₦2 million to the car owner or serve an additional three years in jail.

In a separate case, Bunu Usman Dankoli was convicted of misappropriating ₦7 million. The funds had been entrusted to him to execute a contract allegedly awarded by a non-governmental organization. However, Dankoli converted the money for personal use.

He pleaded guilty in court, and the EFCC confirmed that the victim had already been fully refunded. The court sentenced Dankoli to a ₦100,000 fine or 10 years in prison if the fine is not paid.

These convictions underscore the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to tackle financial crimes and enforce accountability across all levels.
