TWO KILLED AS SUSPECTED HERDSMEN ATTACK BENUE COMMUNITY
Tension has once again gripped Egwuma community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State after suspected herdsmen launched an early morning attack on Friday, August 22, 2025, leaving two people dead and several others shaken.
The victims have been identified as Mr. Yusuf Onuminya and Mr. Ochopefu Ochoweche, both residents of the community.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed men stormed the village in the early hours, firing shots sporadically. The chaos forced villagers to flee for safety as the attackers carted away four motorcycles. Unlike previous incidents, no houses were reported destroyed.
The attack comes just two days after a mother and her son were killed in the same community, raising concerns about repeated assaults in the area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who confirmed the incident, noted that although calm has returned to Egwuma, residents remain fearful of fresh attacks.
The recurring violence in Agatu has fueled growing worries among locals, who are calling for a stronger security presence to protect lives and property.
