"TWO KIDNAPPERS KILLED, MILLIONS RECOVERED IN JOINT SECURITY RAID IN OGWASHI-UKU, DELTA STATE"
Security Forces Foil Kidnap Plot in Delta State, Recover Ransom and Weapons
In a major breakthrough against kidnapping in Delta State, a joint security operation successfully neutralized two suspected kidnappers in Ogwashi-Uku on Wednesday, July 30. The coordinated effort involved military personnel from the 63 Brigade Asaba, officers from the Divisional Police Headquarters Ogwashi-Uku, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad Asaba, and members of the Edo-Ogwashi Security network.
The raid, which targeted a known kidnappers’ hideout in the Edo-Ogwashi area, also led to the recovery of a significant portion of ransom money paid by the victims’ families. Alongside the cash, one AK-47 rifle, three loaded magazines, and 16 rounds of live ammunition were retrieved.
According to human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared a video of the aftermath, the operation was carried out following the kidnapping of two female students from Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku and an estate supervisor who had earlier been shot and abducted.
"These criminals were responsible for the recent kidnappings around Azagba-Ogwashi and Ubulu-Okiti," Harrison stated in his post. “Thanks to the intelligence support provided by the Delta State Government House Tracker Team and swift action from our security agencies, we were able to act quickly and effectively."
While two suspects were killed during the exchange, others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds. Security forces are continuing to search for the fleeing suspects.
Gwamnishu expressed gratitude to the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for his support in providing resources and backing the security agencies. He also acknowledged the dedication of the officers involved and commended the teamwork that made the operation successful.
The development has sparked widespread praise from locals, many of whom have called for continued vigilance and support for security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the region.
“We will keep responding swiftly to credible reports and make our communities safer,” Gwamnishu emphasized.
