Tragedy struck on Saturday at Idi Ayunre, along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road, when a trailer belonging to Kulum Quarry lost control and crushed three people, leaving two dead and one critically injured.

According to eyewitnesses, one victim died instantly, while the other two were rushed to the hospital. Sadly, the second victim later died, and the third survivor had a limb amputated due to the severity of injuries sustained in the crash.

The unfortunate incident sparked anger among residents, as youths in the area staged a protest and barricaded the road in outrage over the recurring road accidents in the region.

The Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, Engineer Akeem Olatunji, visited the scene on Monday to calm the situation and pledged justice for the victims.

“This is another avoidable tragedy. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. No one should lose their loved ones in such a cruel manner, especially when it could have been prevented,” Olatunji said.

He further assured that the driver would be brought to book and that the company would compensate the affected families. Olatunji also appealed to the aggrieved youths to remain peaceful and refrain from acts of violence or vandalism.

“We understand your anger, but we must handle this responsibly. I assure you, justice will be served,” he added.

The tragic incident has reignited concerns about road safety and heavy-duty vehicle regulation along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan route.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
