TWO ARRESTED IN GOMBE FOR MOTORCYCLE THEFT AS POLICE RECOVER THREE STOLEN BIKES
Police in Gombe State have cracked down on a motorcycle theft ring, arresting two suspects and recovering three stolen bikes during separate operations across Akko Local Government Area.
The arrests were carried out by officers of “Operation Hattara” after they received a crucial tip from a vigilant resident. According to the state police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the team led by CSP Ali Madawaki swung into action on Sunday, July 7, around noon.
The officers raided a suspected hideout in Tudun Hayin Kwarai, Misau, where they apprehended two young men:
Misba’u Adamu, 25, from Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State, and
Adamu Ibrahim, 28, from Garko LGA, Kano State.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to breaking into the home of one Mohammed Usman in Hayin Kwarin-Misau just a day earlier, where they made away with two motorcycles — a Qlink Cassie (registration ABC 484 WN) and a Hero Hunter (registration GME 36 QL), altogether valued at about ₦1.8 million.
Further investigations led police to a location where the stolen bikes were hidden, reportedly on the premises of one Babangida, whose full identity is still under investigation. Police say they are now closing in on the gang’s ringleader and other accomplices still at large. The arrested suspects will be charged once investigations wrap up.
In a separate but related case, officers on night patrol recovered yet another motorcycle in the Wuro Birji area of Akko LGA. Around 1:00 am on the same day, the patrol team spotted a man riding a black Jincheng Kasea (registration DKU 099 UK). The suspect immediately abandoned the bike and fled upon seeing the police, escaping under the cover of darkness. While the suspect is still on the run, the recovered motorcycle is in police custody, and efforts are underway to identify its rightful owner.
DSP Abdullahi praised the community for sharing timely information that led to the breakthrough. He urged residents to remain alert and continue reporting suspicious activities to nearby police stations.
“The Gombe State Police Command is committed to protecting lives and property. We encourage everyone to stay vigilant and work with us to keep our communities safe,” he said.
