TWO ARRESTED FOR KILLING UTME CANDIDATE IN LAGOS
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers over the abduction and killing of a 17-year-old Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidate, Thompson Adams, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
He said the suspects, identified as Elijah Emmanuel (23) and Tony Ekwen Ogenata (21), were arrested on Monday around 8 pm following credible intelligence.
According to him, investigations revealed that the victim, who had just returned from his examination on April 22, 2026, was lured by his former secondary schoolmates under pretences before being killed.
The police said the suspects invited Adams to their apartment, where he was attacked and murdered.
The commissioner added that the suspects later concealed the victim’s body in a bag and dumped it within the Ikorodu community.
Further investigations, he noted, also linked the suspects to an earlier kidnapping and murder case involving a female victim in November 2025.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly abducted the woman, who was said to be romantically involved with one of them, contacted her family, and collected a ₦300,000 ransom before killing her.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.
The police condemned the killings and reassured residents of intensified efforts to combat kidnapping and violent crime across Lagos State.
