TWO ARRESTED AS POLICE RECOVER 11 PHONES, LAPTOP AFTER OGUN HOSTEL ROBBERY
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects following a robbery at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun, were arrested in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, after police operatives responded to a distress call concerning an armed robbery attack on students at the hostel.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. when operatives attached to the Ewekoro Divisional Police Headquarters moved to the scene. The police said the suspects abandoned a school bag containing stolen property and attempted to flee after noticing the arrival of the officers.
A search of the abandoned bag reportedly led to the recovery of 11 assorted iPhones, an HP laptop and several clothing items. The command said some of the victims had already identified the recovered phones and other belongings as their property. Preliminary investigations also revealed that the robbers allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer N200,000 into an account during the operation.
The police further disclosed that detectives visited the hostel to gather evidence and inspect signs of forced entry. Searches conducted at the residences of the two arrested suspects reportedly did not yield any additional incriminating items.
The suspects and recovered property have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation. The command said efforts were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement and establish whether other members of the alleged robbery gang were connected to the incident.
