Popular Nigerian TV host, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has shared a deeply emotional story about her past struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts.

Morayo, who recently stepped down as host of TVC’s Your View after 12 years, revealed during an interview with Chude Jideonwo that she once felt so overwhelmed and hopeless that she contemplated ending her life.

“I was depressed. At a point, I was suicidal. I walked on the express, hoping a car would hit me. It was that bad,” she confessed.

The media personality explained that her depression was tied to a sense of stagnation in her career. Despite her success on Your View, she admitted she had long felt the need to move on but didn’t know how to take the next step.

According to her, the turning point came during TVC’s 10th anniversary, when she finally realised it was time to pursue a new chapter.

“It was when we [TVC] were ten years that I knew that it was time [for me] to go to the next thing. I had been harbouring that thought for a while, but I didn’t know how to go about it. Last year, I got that light-bulb moment,” she said.

Her story has resonated with many Nigerians, highlighting the importance of mental health conversations, even among seemingly successful public figures.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
