TUNDE BAKARE: I HAD A VISION, NOT AMBITION, TO LEAD NIGERIA
Pastor Tunde Bakare, General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), has clarified that his desire to lead Nigeria stemmed from a vision, not personal ambition.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Monday, Bakare emphasized that he is not actively chasing political power but remains open to divine timing.
“I never had an ambition to become Nigeria’s president — it was a vision,” he said. “There’s no age barrier to that, but I’m not pursuing anything. You didn’t see me putting up posters or campaigning heavily, even during the last primaries. I’m a gentleman, and I believe that whatever God intends will happen at the right time.”
He stressed that influence can be more powerful than formal authority, adding, “You can contribute ideas that lead to national progress or help the current administration without holding office.”
Bakare concluded that Nigeria's real challenge is a lack of the right people in the right positions, not a shortage of resources or opportunities.
