TUC NOT PART OF FG TALKS ON WORKERS’ DEMANDS — NLC
The Nigeria Labour Congress has clarified that the Trade Union Congress did not participate in its October 22 meeting with the Federal Government over workers’ demands.
The NLC issued the clarification after media reports linked both labour organisations to the discussions, which ended without an agreement. Talks were adjourned until October 27.
In a statement signed by its Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah, on Friday, the congress said the TUC neither took part in the dialogue as an organisation nor issued an ultimatum to the government over the meeting.
“The TUC was not part of the dialogue between the NLC and the Federal Government on October 22, 2026,” the statement said.
The NLC acknowledged that TUC representatives associated with the Joint Health Sector Unions and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council attended the meeting.
However, it stressed that their attendance did not amount to participation by the TUC itself.
The clarification comes as the NLC continues to press for action on fuel prices, minimum wage negotiations and outstanding agreements affecting public-sector workers.
With no agreement reached at the last meeting, the demands remain unresolved ahead of the next round of talks.
