TRUMP’S THREAT: NIGERIA READY TO WORK WITH US, OTHER COUNTRIES TO WIPE OUT TERRORISTS – FG
The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared its readiness to collaborate with the United States and other international allies to eradicate terrorism and criminal activities in the country.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known during a world press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Idris acknowledged Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges but clarified that the situation is not religiously motivated, countering claims of targeted violence based on faith.
“The Nigerian government is willing to work with other international bodies, including the United States, to ensure that criminals are permanently wiped out,” he stated.
He emphasized that under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has made notable progress in tackling insecurity, citing improvements in the Global Terrorism Index and the restructuring of the nation’s security architecture through the appointment of new service chiefs.
“President Tinubu is taking the lead to resolve all challenges with the US and other countries,” Idris continued.
“Nigeria is not running away from the fact that we have a big insecurity situation. The government and people of Nigeria have taken note of the US stance over alleged human rights violations.”
He reaffirmed Tinubu’s commitment to ending insecurity, urging global partners to join hands with Nigeria in its ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
The statement follows last week’s remarks by former US President Donald Trump, who threatened military action against Nigeria if the government failed to address alleged killings of Christians — remarks that stirred intense reactions both domestically and internationally.
Trump had also designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern”, citing reports of religiously motivated violence.
