The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended the driver of an articulated truck following a serious head-on collision with a commercial bus along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at the Mosafejo–Aradagun axis of the expressway, involving the truck and a Mazda commercial bus with registration number FST 946 YK.

According to traffic officials, the crash resulted from the truck driver attempting an illegal U-turn at an unauthorized location, causing a violent collision with the oncoming bus.

Three male passengers on the bus sustained critical injuries from the impact.

LASTMA officers, in coordination with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), responded promptly. The injured passengers were rescued from the wreckage and immediately transported to a nearby General Hospital by FRSC personnel for urgent medical attention.

Traffic authorities also acted quickly to prevent further incidents by removing the damaged vehicles from the roadway and managing traffic flow in the area. Security support was provided by the Badagry Divisional Police Command.

Commenting on the incident, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, expressed sympathy to the victims and their families.

“Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate accident. We wish them a speedy and full recovery,” Giwa said.

He also cautioned truck drivers and operators of heavy-duty vehicles against reckless driving and flouting traffic laws, emphasizing the dangers posed by such behaviour.

“Illegal U-turns and other hazardous driving practices will not be tolerated. Drivers must strictly comply with traffic regulations as outlined in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law,” he added.

Giwa reiterated the state government’s commitment to road safety, highlighting that enforcement, traffic control, and public awareness efforts would continue to be strengthened to safeguard lives and property on Lagos roads.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
