TROOST-EKONG URGES NIGERIANS TO STAND BEHIND SUPER EAGLES AHEAD OF BENIN CLASH
Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has called on Nigerians to rally behind the national team as they prepare for a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Benin Republic in Uyo.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference on Monday, the former Watford defender emphasized that winning the game will require collective effort — not just from the coach or players, but from every Nigerian.
“This is not a game that I, the coach, or the players can win for us. We need to have a shared responsibility; everyone has to step up,” Troost-Ekong said.
The Super Eagles go into the match after a 2–1 victory over Lesotho, and the captain believes that both players and fans must rise to the occasion once again. He urged supporters to fill the stadium and create the kind of electric atmosphere that inspires the team to perform at their best.
Troost-Ekong also acknowledged the emotional and physical pressure that comes with representing the country but reaffirmed the squad’s determination to deliver results that will make Nigerians proud.
As the Super Eagles chase their World Cup dream, Troost-Ekong’s message is clear — unity, support, and belief are key to victory.
