In a heartwarming show of solidarity and appreciation, six Super Eagles stars have gifted the Super Falcons a generous sum of ₦24 million following their stunning triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The male national team players behind this kind gesture include William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joseph Aribo. The donation is their way of celebrating the Super Falcons’ heroic comeback win against the Moroccan Atlas Lionesses in Saturday’s final.

The Falcons had fans on the edge of their seats as they clawed their way back from two goals down to snatch a dramatic victory, clinching Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title — a historic feat under coach Justine Madugu.

Upon returning to Nigeria on Monday, the team was also received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who conferred national honours on them and rewarded the players and technical crew with generous cash gifts in U.S. dollars. Additionally, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum also pledged rewards to the champions.

The gesture from the Super Eagles players has drawn wide praise from fans across the country, with many calling it a “beautiful example of team spirit” and “true support between Nigeria’s football stars.”

While the country continues to debate the President’s choice of currency in rewarding the team, this ₦24 million gift from their male counterparts in naira comes as a symbol of unity and shared pride in national achievement.

The Super Falcons have once again proven they are a force to be reckoned with in African football — and now, both their fans and fellow players are celebrating them in style.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
