Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued 23 kidnapped civilians and arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group during separate operations in Sokoto State.

The operations were carried out on September 20 in Wurno, Sabon Birni, Isa and Illela Local Government Areas, according to the task force.

In Wurno Local Government Area, troops responded to an attack on Sabon Gari and engaged the attackers, forcing them to withdraw. Six kidnapped victims were rescued during the operation, while a civilian who sustained a gunshot injury was taken to a medical facility.

Troops also responded to a distress call over terrorist activities along the Isa–Kwanar Isa–Shinkafi Road in Isa LGA. After engaging the attackers, soldiers searched the area and rescued 17 kidnapped civilians. One of the victims, who sustained a fracture, was taken to General Hospital, Isa, for treatment.

In Illela LGA, troops acting on intelligence intercepted four suspected Lakurawa members allegedly moving rustled cattle from Sarma Village towards Illela. Six cattle were recovered during the operation.

The suspects remain in military custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the group.
