TROOPS RESCUE 10 VICTIMS FROM ABDUCTION ATTEMPTS IN ZAMFARA
Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have foiled two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 victims in Zamfara State.
The operations were conducted on Sunday, September 27, in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas, according to the task force.
The Media Information Officer of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops of Sector 2 responded to information about an abduction at Kade Daba village in Kanoma District, Maru LGA.
He said the troops engaged the attackers and rescued three victims, while further searches in the area led to the rescue of another person, bringing the total number rescued in the operation to four.
In a separate incident along the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops conducting a security operation heard gunshots around Kwanoni and moved towards the area.
According to Danja, the troops encountered the attackers and engaged them, forcing them to withdraw. He said the attackers had set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants, but those inside escaped before the vehicle was completely engulfed.
The troops also rescued six people from another vehicle that reportedly lost control following the gunshots.
The JTF commended the troops for their response and urged residents to provide timely information on suspicious activities to security agencies.
