Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected kidnappers during a clearance operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation, carried out under the codename Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA, was based on credible intelligence about criminal activities in the Garau axis ofthe  Rafin Taba community. Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday.

The suspects, identified as Ibrahim Umaru and Adamu Malam Musa, are said to be notorious for their involvement in several abductions within Taraba and beyond.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to participating in multiple kidnappings, where large ransoms were collected from victims’ families. They also revealed that some abductees were moved across Taraba State boundaries into Plateau State, particularly around the notorious Madam Forest, to evade security surveillance,” the statement read.

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism and commitment. He assured residents that the Army would continue to work with other security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace in Taraba and neighboring states.

The Army further appealed to the public to support ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information, while warning criminal elements to abandon their activities or face decisive action.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
