TROOPS ARREST SEVEN SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVER WEAPONS IN BENUE
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended seven suspected cultists and seized a cache of weapons during a targeted operation in the North Bank area of Makurdi, Benue State.
The raid, conducted on October 30, 2025, was part of ongoing military efforts to curb rising criminal activities and enhance security within the state capital and nearby communities.
In a statement by the Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the troops recovered two locally made pistols, one cartridge, a round of 7.62mm ammunition, an empty shell casing, a dagger, and several bags containing charms and other suspicious materials.
The suspects, reportedly involved in armed robbery, drug abuse, and cult-related violence, are in custody for further interrogation and possible prosecution.
The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and dedication, urging them to sustain their efforts in tackling criminal elements across the region.
He further appealed to young people, particularly students, to stay away from cultism and embrace discipline, patriotism, and peaceful ways of resolving conflicts.
Operation Whirl Stroke reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security across Benue State and other areas within its operational jurisdiction.
