TROOPS ARREST 13 IN DELTA DURING RAID ON ALLEGED IPOB/ESN CAMPS
Army Raids Alleged IPOB Hideouts in Delta, Arrests 13 Suspects
Troops of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 1 of Operation Delta Safe, have arrested 13 suspects during a series of raids on alleged hideouts of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Okpanam, Oshimili North LGA, Delta State.
According to a statement released by Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the operations were carried out between July 26 and August 1, 2025, following credible intelligence reports.
The raids targeted areas known as Abacha Camp and Fulani Camp, believed to be used by IPOB/ESN elements. After the operation, the suspects were transferred to the 63 Military Intelligence Regiment for proper profiling.
Out of the 13 arrested individuals, four were confirmed to be IPOB/ESN collaborators — identified as Hossanah John, Obassey Maduabichi, Nwamini Nduka, and Aguyi Uchenna. The remaining nine suspects, who were found to have no links with the proscribed group, will be released to their families on surety.
Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade and Sector 1 Joint Task Force, commended the troops for their swift and intelligence-driven actions. He reaffirmed the army’s dedication to maintaining peace and security in Delta State.
The army also confirmed that the four identified collaborators will be handed over to higher authorities for further investigation and necessary action.
As tensions continue in parts of the Southeast and South-South, military authorities stress that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activity and protect civilian lives.
