TRAILER KILLS SEVEN IN GOMBE MULTIPLE CRASH
Seven people have died and 11 others sustained injuries after a trailer lost control and crashed into cars and motorcycles in Gombe State.
The accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Tashan Magariya Junction in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area, along the Gombe–Billiri Road.
The Gombe State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Samson Kaura, confirmed the incident during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday.
According to Kaura, the crash involved eight vehicles: a DAF trailer, two Volkswagen Golf cars and five motorcycles.
He said the trailer was travelling from Gombe towards Yola when it suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. It struck the two cars before crashing into the motorcycles.
A total of 25 people were involved, comprising 14 men, three women and eight children. The injured sustained wounds including fractures, cuts and bruises.
Kaura said those involved were taken to public hospitals in Kumo for examination and medical care. The bodies of the deceased were deposited in the hospitals’ mortuaries.
Following the crash, the FRSC commander urged motorists to inspect their vehicles before setting out and obey speed limits throughout their journeys.
He stressed the need for extra caution in built-up areas and on busy roads, explaining that lower speeds can reduce the severity of injuries and damage when crashes occur.
