In another heartbreaking attack in Zamfara State, bandits struck again—killing seven people and injuring several others along the Tsafe-Funtua road.

The attack happened around 7 p.m. on Thursday, just before the road was set to close for the day under a security curfew imposed by the state government.

Eyewitnesses said the victims were innocent travelers, including women and children, who were riding in a commercial vehicle when they were ambushed by gunmen riding on motorcycles.

“The bandits were riding across the road and opened fire the moment they saw the bus,” a local source told ESSENTIAL NEWS. “There were women and children on board. Seven people were killed instantly.”

The source also confirmed that passengers in at least two other vehicles were abducted during the terrifying attack. The full number of those kidnapped remains unclear, but locals fear the worst.

Zamfara State has been under constant threat from bandits, prompting the government to introduce a daily road closure policy in some areas to reduce nighttime attacks. Unfortunately, Thursday’s ambush occurred just before the curfew kicked in.

So far, the police command in the state has not officially commented on the incident. Multiple calls placed to DSP Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson for the Zamfara Police Command, went unanswered.

This latest tragedy has sparked renewed fear and frustration among

residents, who say they are tired of living in constant fear.

“We just want to travel in peace, without the fear of being killed or kidnapped,” said one local driver who now avoids the route entirely.

As communities mourn the victims, many are once again calling on both the state and federal governments to urgently strengthen security in the North-West region and ensure that roads, schools, farms, and homes are safe again.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
