Residents of Kanikawa and Gidan Gado villages in Katsina State are reeling from shock and grief after deadly attacks by bandits left at least seven people dead, including a pregnant woman.

The attacks happened on Sunday, with the first raid striking Kanikawa community in Kurfi Local Government Area (LGA) during the afternoon. According to reports by security analyst Bakatsine, four people, including the pregnant woman, were killed in the brutal assault.

Later that night, the bandits moved to Gidan Gado village in Funtua LGA, where they killed three more residents and kidnapped several others.

“Yesterday afternoon, bandits attacked Kanikawa community in Kurfi LGA, Katsina State, killing four people, including a pregnant woman. Later at night, they stormed Gidan Gado village in Funtua LGA, killed 3 more and abducted several residents,” Bakatsine posted on X (formerly Twitter).

As of the time of this report, state authorities are yet to release an official statement on the tragic incidents, leaving residents anxious and fearful over the escalating insecurity in the area.

Katsina, like many parts of Nigeria’s northwest, continues to struggle with frequent bandit attacks that have claimed countless lives and displaced many families. Locals are calling for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable communities and prevent more bloodshed.
