A tragic incident in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State has left two people dead and one person injured after they fell into an abandoned well.

The accident happened on Thursday evening, July 24, 2025, at Unguwar Malamin Kurunsumau, according to a statement by the Kano State Fire Service spokesperson, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

It all began when a four-year-old boy, Abubakar Ahmad, accidentally fell into an old, unused well that was previously used for waste pumping. A 22-year-old man, Abubakar Muhammad, jumped in to try and save the child, but also got trapped. A third man, 30-year-old Jibrin Muhammad, followed in a second rescue attempt, but was also trapped inside.

Rescue teams from the fire service were immediately dispatched and managed to pull all three out of the well. Sadly, two of them — the child and Jibrin Muhammad — were found unconscious and later confirmed dead. Only Abubakar Muhammad survived and was rushed to the Kura LGA Specialist Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police at Kura Police Division.

The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns about the safety of abandoned wells and waste sites, especially in residential areas.
