Teen Drowns in Kano Village, Fire Service Confirms Recovery

A tragic incident struck Dandalama village in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, as a 17-year-old boy, Lurwanu Suleiman, was confirmed dead after drowning in a body of water.

The unfortunate event occurred on Tuesday afternoon, and was confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service in a statement released on Wednesday.

According to the service’s spokesperson, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, the agency received a distress call at exactly 12:54 p.m. from a concerned resident, Malam Aminu Dandalama. A rescue team was immediately mobilized and reached the location by 1:25 p.m.

“Sadly, we found the boy dead,” Abdullahi stated. “His body was recovered and later handed over to the Ward Head of Dandalama, Alhaji Safiyan Usman.”

The exact circumstances that led to the drowning are still under investigation.

The Kano State Fire Service has once again advised the public—especially parents and guardians—to educate children and teens about the dangers of swimming in unfamiliar or unsupervised water bodies, especially during the rainy season.

This heartbreaking incident is a reminder of the importance of community safety and awareness to prevent future tragedies.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
