Two lives were tragically lost in separate cases of domestic violence in Adamawa State, prompting fresh concerns over rising family-related conflicts. The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to the incidents in Madagali and Gombi Local Government Areas.
Police spokesperson, SP Yahaya Nguroje, revealed that the first incident occurred in Pallam District, Madagali, involving two co-wives—55-year-old Rhoda Anthony and 36-year-old Victoria Anthony. During a heated argument, Victoria’s 16-year-old son, Ijai Anthony, allegedly struck Rhoda on the head with a piece of wood. She was rushed to the Cottage Hospital in Madagali but sadly passed away while receiving treatment.
Both Victoria and her son have since been taken into custody as investigations continue.
The second, equally disturbing incident took place in Gombi, where 25-year-old Idi Buba reportedly stabbed his father, Buba Jelli, multiple times during a domestic altercation. Medical staff at a nearby health centre confirmed the elder Buba’s death shortly after he was brought in. A knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene.
Reacting to the twin tragedies, Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, expressed deep concern. “It is painful and alarming that these violent acts happened within families. We strongly urge residents to resolve disputes peacefully and seek help when needed,” he stated.
CP Morris further assured the public that full investigations are underway and that the suspects will face justice in court once the process is complete.
The incidents have sparked discussions on the need for better conflict resolution mechanisms within homes, as well as community education to prevent further violence.
