A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the Agatu community of Benue State, as a young woman from Ekaida, Agatu Local Government Area, was abducted and later found dead in Abuja.

The lady, whose name has not yet been made public, was reportedly on her way home from work when she unknowingly boarded a vehicle operated by ‘one chance’ criminals — a notorious group known for luring unsuspecting commuters, robbing, and sometimes harming them.

Her lifeless body was found dumped by the roadside on Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Street in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Adanu Andrew, a community member who identified the victim, her abductors had demanded ₦1 million ransom, and the family was already working towards securing her release. Sadly, before they could act, news of her death began to circulate on social media.

“She was returning from work and was picked by ‘one chance’ yesterday,” Andrew said. “She was a disciplined and hardworking young lady, doing her best to survive. Unfortunately, she fell into the hands of wicked people who are ready to kill just to make money.”

He added, “May God grant her eternal rest and console her grieving family.”

This devastating incident has reignited concerns over the growing insecurity and criminal activities within Abuja and other major Nigerian cities. ‘One chance’ operations, in particular, have become increasingly rampant, targeting innocent workers and students relying on public transportation.

Residents are now calling on security agencies and the FCT administration to take urgent action in protecting lives and tracking down these criminal syndicates.

For many, this young woman’s death is not just a personal loss — it is a grim reminder of the dangers that everyday Nigerians face while simply trying to earn an honest living.
