The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged the Sokoto State Government to include traditional rulers in the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage.

The appeal was made on Sunday during a Town Hall meeting organized by the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning ahead of the submission of the state’s 2026 budget proposal. The Sultan was represented by the District Head of Wurno, Alhaji Kabiru Cigari-Alhassan.

The meeting also included contributions from representatives of persons with disabilities, women’s groups, and civil society organizations, who raised issues such as water supply, school furniture, healthcare, and youth empowerment.

Dr. Abubakar Zayyana, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, explained that the meeting aimed to broaden consultations on the proposed 2026 budget.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu assured participants that budget allocations would continue for projects in religious institutions, education, water, and healthcare. He also highlighted ongoing initiatives to improve electricity supply, school facilities, and child welfare programs.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
