TRADERS, NSCDC CLASH LEAVES ONE DEAD IN JOS
One person was fatally shot during a clash between personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and traders at Chorbe Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Thursday during an attempt to enforce a weekly sanitation exercise at the market.
According to traders, NSCDC personnel were invited by market officials to enforce the exercise and attempted to compel roadside traders to close their shops. Some traders reportedly resisted, saying they were not members of the market association.
The situation reportedly escalated, with traders alleging that armed NSCDC personnel began shooting. Several vehicles parked around the market were also damaged during the unrest.
The incident caused panic in nearby areas, including Apata, Alikazaure, Katako, Masalachi and Bauchi Road, with residents reportedly fleeing into their homes.
The injured trader was taken to a nearby hospital, while efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing the report.
