Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress campaign council after her name appeared among members of the party’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abraham reacted to the development through her Instagram Story on Thursday, September 17, saying she was not a member of any campaign council and had already made her position on political involvement known. She urged members of the public to disregard reports linking her to the campaign committee, stressing that she was staying out of politics.

Her name was included in the campaign structure released by the Lagos APC, alongside several prominent figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Those listed included veteran actors Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun and Bukky Wright, as well as Fuji musicians Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Obesere and Adewale Ayuba.

The development comes after Abraham’s public involvement in the 2023 presidential election, when she expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Her position at the time attracted criticism and online backlash, with the actress later speaking publicly about attacks directed at her and members of her family. She also took legal and administrative steps over some claims and comments she described as defamatory and cyberbullying.

Meanwhile, the Lagos APC campaign council structure lists Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, with Jide Kosoko as Co-Director and Eniola Badmus as Deputy Director. Despite Abraham’s public rejection of the reported appointment, her name remained on the published list of members of the 33-person directorate as of Friday, September 18.
