“TOO TOXIC FOR ME” — IRETI DOYLE EXPLAINS WHY SHE TOOK A BREAK FROM SOCIAL MEDIA
Ireti Doyle Reveals Why She Disappeared from Social Media: “It’s Too Toxic for Me”
Veteran Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has opened up about her recent absence from social media, admitting that the online space has become too toxic and unsafe for her peace of mind.
The 58-year-old actress, who has been noticeably quiet online for several months, made a rare appearance on Instagram where she explained her decision to step back from public interaction.
“I used to wonder what I’d do with myself once I became an ‘empty nester’… now I know. Had to disappear again. The streets of social media (nay, the world in general) is becoming too toxic for my quiet soul,” she wrote.
“How have you been? I hope you’re protecting yourself?”
Born on May 3, 1967, in Ondo State, Ireti Doyle spent part of her early life in Boston, USA, before returning to Nigeria to study Theatre Arts at the University of Jos.
Her entertainment career began behind the scenes as a producer and presenter, notably creating and hosting the hit fashion and lifestyle show ‘Oge with Iretiola’ for a decade. She also presented ‘Morning Ride’ on Silverbird Television before venturing fully into acting.
Doyle gained widespread recognition in the late 1990s and has since starred in several acclaimed films including ‘Sitanda’ (2006), ‘Across the Niger’ (2009), and ‘Torn’ (2013). Her powerful performances have earned her multiple nominations and a Best Supporting Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The actress, formerly married to broadcaster Patrick Doyle, says she now prefers a quieter, more intentional lifestyle, away from the noise and negativity that often dominate social media spaces.
Fans and colleagues have flooded her comment section with supportive messages, praising her for choosing peace over pressure in a world that often glorifies constant online presence.
