Tobi Amusan claimed victory in the women’s 100 meters hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco, finishing with an impressive time of 12.45 seconds. The Nigerian hurdler, who is also the world record holder, delivered a season-best time of 12.24 seconds, breaking the previous meet record of 12.51 seconds set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018.

At 28 years old, Amusan’s win in Rabat marked her first major triumph of the 2025 season and reinforced her position as a leading contender ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo.

Amusan began the 2025 season with two fourth-place finishes at the Diamond League meets in Xiamen and Shanghai in May. She also won the Velocity Fest 16 in Jamaica in March, though that competition featured a less competitive field.

The Rabat victory was a significant turning point following a disappointing end to her 2024 season, during which she failed to reach the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics.

After the race, Amusan credited her improved performance to a renewed focus on technique. She explained that she had been doing more sprinting earlier in the season but returned to more hurdle-specific drills after the initial Diamond League meetings. She said that after two weeks of dedicated hurdle practice, she could already see the difference.

With the hurdles event not included in the upcoming Doha Diamond League meet, the Rabat competition became a key opportunity for Amusan to boost her season, and she made the most of it.

As the World Championships approach, Amusan’s strong showing in Rabat signals her readiness to compete at the highest level once again.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
