Afrobeats queen, Tiwa Savage, has opened up about the emotional story behind one of her tattoos, revealing that it was inspired by the pain of heartbreak.

In a recent chat with media personality Katy Igwe, the singer explained that she wanted the tattooing process to be private, so she flew in her tattoo artist from Los Angeles to her home in Lagos.

According to Tiwa, she didn’t want to sit in a public tattoo parlour while dealing with such raw emotions.

“I did it in my room so I could be comfortable. In a tattoo parlour, people are working around you while you’re going through pain. I wanted a safe space,” she said.

She described the session as intense and “bloody,” recalling that her tattoo artist was even worried about how much pain she was enduring.

“He was like, ‘What are you doing? Is that going to come off?’ There was blood everywhere. But I just wanted to do something to scream,” she explained.

The singer admitted that the tattoo was a way of expressing the emotional toll of a difficult relationship she went through two years ago.

“Last two years was a very hard time. The relationship I experienced was crazy. I’m so happy I’m out of that relationship,” Tiwa added.

Her candid revelation highlights how music and art often go hand in hand with personal struggles, with tattoos becoming a canvas for healing and self-expression.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
