As Nigerians approach 2026, President Bola Tinubu has pledged that his administration will decisively combat banditry and terrorism across the country.

Speaking at his Lagos residence while receiving organisers of the Eyo Festival ahead of the December 27 event, Tinubu also cautioned Nigerians to avoid excessive alcohol consumption and to stay safe during the festive season.

He urged citizens to celebrate the Yuletide with moderation.

Tinubu said: “I’m delighted by this great cultural remembrance that rekindles our heritage. It’s an honour to return home and see our people happy and healthy as we celebrate the Eyo Carnival in peace, harmony, love, and brotherhood.

“We continue to pray to God Almighty that this Christmas brings joy to everyone. Let the holidays be a time of peace, celebration, and safety—without alcohol or danger to anyone’s life. We are all part of this great family.

“Eko is progressing, Nigeria is progressing, and it is this progress that we celebrate during this period. May God bless you, bless Lagos, bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I assure you that we will defeat banditry and terrorism.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
