President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong warning to criminal elements across the country following the killing of a notorious bandit leader in Kogi State by Nigerian troops.

The operation, carried out by security forces, targeted a suspected armed group responsible for attacks, kidnappings, and violent crimes in parts of the North-Central region.

Military sources said the bandit leader was neutralised during a coordinated offensive, which also disrupted the group’s operational base and forced other members to flee.

President Tinubu praised the troops for their courage and professionalism, describing the operation as a significant step in the ongoing fight against insecurity.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and ensuring that criminal networks are dismantled across all regions.

The President also warned that individuals involved in kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes would face decisive action from security agencies.

Security analysts say the operation reflects intensified efforts by the armed forces to weaken criminal structures operating in rural and forested areas.

Residents in affected communities have expressed relief over the development, while urging authorities to maintain sustained pressure on remaining criminal groups.

The military has continued operations across several states as part of broader efforts to restore peace and stability.

Authorities say further details of the operation will be made available as assessments continue in the region.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
