TINUBU TAKES BOLD ACTION TO CURB TERRORISM – MINISTER
The administration of President Bola Tinubu is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to tackle terrorism in Nigeria, combining military operations, socio-economic initiatives, and regional diplomacy.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Solid Minerals, Deji Alake, during a news conference hosted by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Alake emphasized that insecurity in the country did not begin under President Tinubu’s leadership or within the past two years.
“From the actions taken so far, if similar measures had been implemented ten years ago, we might not be facing the current challenges,” he said.
“These measures include restructuring the security architecture and appointing new leadership in key security agencies, with the aim of reinvigorating the fight against insecurity.”
He noted that a comparative review of the past decade and the past two years demonstrates the administration’s significant efforts to curb insecurity.
Alake also addressed claims of religious targeting by terrorists, stressing that attacks are often motivated by economic or political factors rather than faith.
“Ironically, some of the affected communities are predominantly of one religion. Using religion to explain the motive behind attacks is inaccurate and does not reflect the reality on the ground,” he said.
The minister further urged the media to avoid spreading misleading narratives, calling instead for greater recognition of the successes of Nigeria’s armed forces in combating terrorism.
