TINUBU SET TO PRESENT NIGERIA’S POSITION AT UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON SEPTEMBER 23

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to address world leaders at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. His appearance will form part of the high-level General Debate, which is scheduled to take place at the UN headquarters from September 22 to 28.

The Nigerian President is listed as the 10th speaker for the morning session on the second day of the debate. His participation is expected to provide an opportunity for Nigeria to present its position on major global issues while engaging with other heads of state and government attending the annual international gathering.

Tinubu’s address is expected to focus on Nigeria’s priorities in areas including global development, economic cooperation, peace and security. The President is also expected to highlight the country’s role in responding to emerging international challenges and strengthening cooperation with other nations.

The visit comes as Nigeria continues to push for a stronger role in multilateral affairs. In July, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Jimoh Ibrahim, said Tinubu had proposed that member states consider incorporating the preamble of the UN Charter into their national constitutions as a way of reinforcing commitments to peace, justice, human dignity and international cooperation.

Tinubu’s appearance at the General Assembly will therefore provide another platform for Nigeria to engage the international community on its diplomatic priorities and broader development objectives. The September 23 address is expected to attract attention as world leaders deliberate on pressing global economic, security and development challenges.
