President Bola Tinubu has said the operationalisation of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states will bring troops closer to vulnerable communities and improve responses to security threats.

Tinubu said the new formations were part of measures to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and enable troops to respond more quickly when communities come under threat.

The President also announced that the Federal Government was accelerating the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi, while facilities in Osun had been completed.

He said the projects were intended to improve the welfare and working conditions of military personnel and their families.

Tinubu also pointed to the recent increase in military personnel’s pay, saying the adjustment was making a difference to servicemen, women and their families.

He acknowledged the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families during deployments and said the government had a responsibility to provide the resources and support required for them to perform their duties.

The development comes amid continued security challenges in several parts of the country, particularly areas affected by banditry and other threats.
